AHPP Announces Schedule for 2010 ‘Walks Through History,’ ‘Sandwiching In History’ Tours |

LITTLE ROCK–The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program’s “Walks Through History” and “Sandwiching in History” tours will visit historic properties across the state during 2010, AHPP Director Frances McSwain announced today.
In the “Walks Through History” program, AHPP historians each month provide free guided walking tours of historic structures and districts across Arkansas. The tours all begin at 11 a.m. on Saturdays. The 2010 schedule includes:
* March 13, Pocahontas Commercial Historic District, co-sponsored by Five Rivers Historic Preservation, Inc., and the Randolph County Tourism Association
* April 17, Fordyce-Ricks House Historic District, Hot Springs, co-sponsored by the Garland County Historical Society
* May 15, Wynne Commercial Historic District, co-sponsored by the Cross County Historical Society
* June 12, Mammoth Spring Dam and Lake, co-sponsored by Mammoth Spring State Park and the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce
* July 17, Historic Pangburn, co-sponsored by the White County Historical Society
* Aug. 14, Rector Commercial Historic District, co-sponsored by Rector Downtown Central
* Sept. 18, DeWitt Commercial Historic District, co-sponsored by the Grand Prairie Historical Society
* Oct. 9, Historic Hampton, co-sponsored by the Hampton Cemetery Committee
* Nov. 13, Shaheen-Goodfellow Weekend Cottage (“Stoneflower”), co-sponsored by the Cleburne County Historical Society
* Dec. 11, Harrisburg Commercial Historic District, co-sponsored by the Sunken Lands Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The “Sandwiching in History” tour series targets Pulaski County structures and sites. The noontime series includes a brief lecture and tour of the subject property. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunches with them. “Sandwiching in History” tours will be held in 2010 at the following locations:
* Jan. 8, Trinity Hospital, 2000 S. Main St., Little Rock
* Feb. 5, Robert E. Lee School, 3805 W. 12th St., Little Rock
* March 5, Dr. Morgan Smith House, 5110 Stagecoach Road, Little Rock
* April 9, First Presbyterian Church, 201 W. 4th St., North Little Rock
* May 7, Reichardt House, 1201 Welch St., Little Rock
* June 4, Street Building, 417-419 Main St., North Little Rock
* July 9, Matthews House, 406 Goshen Ave., North Little Rock
* Aug. 6, Crestview Park, junction of Crestview Drive and Cherry Hill Avenue, North Little Rock
* Sept. 10, First Lutheran Church, 314 E. 8th St., Little Rock
* Oct. 1, Oakland-Fraternal Cemetery, Barber Street, Little Rock
* Nov. 5, Melrose Place Addition, 108 Melrose Circle, North Little Rock
* Dec. 3, Herschell-Spillman Carousel, Little Rock Zoo, Little Rock.
