(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – “Great Scot” is an acclamation likely to be ringing around the halls of the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center during the 12th Annual Eureka Springs Robert Burns Night, January 23. The yearly affair celebrates the famous bard not only as a poet, composer, and collector of Scottish poetry and music, but also as “the true man of the people that he was,” according to Enid B. Swartz, Burns Night Founder.

“Besides ‘Auld Lang Syne,’ Burns wrote anti-slavery songs and songs critical of established religion at a time when such things were unheard of – the 18th century,” Swartz explained. “He was much more at home in a pub than in high society, and yet he’s almost single-handedly responsible for saving and archiving a huge part of Scottish culture.”

The evening is a smorgasbord of the best of all things Scottish - music, poetry, food, drink, and dress. It begins with a social time (cash bar) at 6 p.m., followed by the “clan’s feast,” a four-course prime rib roast banquet, at 8 p.m. Attendees will be treated to traditional Bagpipe and drum music, Burns’ poetry, Scottish folk songs, toasts with single malt scotch, and the presentation of the Haggis, a traditional Scottish dish.

Returning to Eureka Springs to provide traditional Scottish music for the event this year will be the Tullintrain West Pipe Band from Kansas City, MO. “We missed them last year,” Swartz said. “In previous years Tullintrain West has been very well received by Robert Burns Night attendees.”

Dress for Robert Burns Night is jacket and tie or Scots' garb. Admission is $40 per person, or hotel/banquet package prices are available upon request. Reservations are required and are available through the Inn of the Ozarks at 479-253-9768.
