Northwest Arkansas (January 14, 2010) – Walton Arts Center is excited to welcome the groundbreaking show Gravity Radio, an experimental work by musician and composer Mikel Rouse. This artful performance could be expected in a New York City avant-garde venue, but instead can be experienced in the intimate Starr Theater, Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7pm and 9pm. Tickets range from $10 to $15 and can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.
New York-based musical provocateur Mikel Rouse is best known for edgy multi-media pop-culture operas like “Falling Kansas” and “The End of Cinema.” Gravity Radio, Rouse’s latest offering, features live music interspersed with AP Newswire reports and shortwave radio frequencies. Accompanied by back-up vocalist and keyboardist Matthew Gandolfo and the SET String Quartet, Rouse belts out beguiling lyrics to a backdrop of stories about current events and visual displays of earthbound images; creating a riveting evening of live-concert-meets-digital-theatre.
Rouse recently contributed a song titled “Wait for Me” to a compilation CD called "1% For the Planet." The CD has been in the top three on Amazon and his track is one of the two top picks. (Other contributors include Jackson Browne, Jack Johnson, Josh Ritter and G. Love.) http://onepercentfortheplanet.org/blog
