Northwest Arkansas (January 21, 2010) – Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny is an innovative double-bill adaptation of two of the most beloved bedtime classics of all time. It will be coming to Northwest Arkansas’ Walton Arts Center for two shows on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11am and 3 pm. Tickets range from $10.50 to $18.50 and can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.
Goodnight Moon is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while The Runaway Bunny’s make believe tale of leaving home evokes reassuring responses from his loving mother. Both tales feature endearing rabbit characters, and the soothing rhythms of bunny banter and dream-like imagery. The show gives parents and children a comforting sense of security and peace. Based on the classic children’s books written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd, Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny incorporates innovative and whimsical puppetry, eye-catching scenic effects and evocative original music – all designed to provide young audiences with an effortless introduction to the performing arts and the joy of reading.
This unique adaption is presented by Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia. For the better part of four decades, Mermaid Theatre’s adaptations have enchanted more than four million young spectators on four continents. The award-winning company is a favorite among parents with youngsters because of their imaginative productions and dedication to children-friendly entertainment. According to New York Magazine, “In-the-know parents go nuts for Mermaid Theatre productions.”
Pajama Party/Kid’s Drive
To celebrate the spirit of goodnight rituals, Walton Arts Center encourages children to come to the performance wearing their favorite pajamas! We also want to recognize those in need by partnering with the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter (NWAWS) to get the word out about domestic violence. Before both performances, there will be a representative from NWAWS on site handing out information, talking with patrons and collecting donations for women and children affected by domestic violence. Please show your support for the community and NWAWS by bringing any of the following items to the performance:
-New Pajamas for children
-Non-perishable food items
-Coloring books
-Monetary donations
